Prison in the US justice system is an awful condition where one loses their freedom. Nevertheless, there is no other mean to protect the normal citizens of the society from the violence creating citizens who murder, rape, assault or rob other people. Therefore prison is an important need to protect the society to lead a peaceful existence. It is also to be assured that prisons are only used as the last resort against the people who threaten the lives and well being of others.
